We’re smack bang in the middle of winter and it’s cold! Soups, stews and casseroles have been heavily featured on our dinner table as of late, but it’s the desserts I’m going to talk about today!
This homemade butterscotch sauce is the perfect thing to warm you up from the inside out on a cosy winters night! And when you pour this warm, decadent, comforting sauce over top of a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream and sliced banana, then you’ve got one delicious bowl of goodness!
I’m so excited to be sharing this recipe with you all today as this is one of my favourite winter desserts to make! It’s so easy and only requires five magic ingredients!
For the Butterscotch
I promised you an easy dessert and I plan to deliver. As I mentioned before this recipe is made up of only five ingredients. Five very important ingredients. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
BUTTER – Because everything is better with butter. You know it’s true 😉
BROWN SUGAR – It adds colour and a certain richness to the sauce that is hard to pass up.
CASTER SUGAR – Okay, so I said it was easy I didn’t say it was good for you…
WATER – This just helps to thin the sauce into the perfect pouring consistency
CREAM – Possibly the secret to a silky, smooth butterscotch sauce!
Well, there you have it. Five simple ingredients that are transformed into a pot of sticky heaven, ready to be served with delicious vanilla ice cream and banana!

Butterscotch Sauce with Banana & Ice Cream
Ingredients
For the Butterscotch
- 90 g butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup caster sugar
- ¼ cup water
- ⅔ cup cream
To Serve
- 8 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 4 bananas sliced
Instructions
- Combine butter, sugars and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat and cook until butter has melted and sugar has dissolved.
- Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, without lid for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the bubbles to subside. Stir in cream and serve with ice cream and bananas.
I have several surprising recipes with banana. This is one I would also would like to try. I like it a lot!
