I wasn’t quite sure how to go about writing this review. The thing I love about writing restaurant critiques is bringing attention to terrific establishments that people need to know about. The thing about this place though, is that it isn’t like a normal restaurant.

The name really does say it all at Danny’s Family Buffet. Located in the middle of the Tweeds Head Golf Club, Danny’s is an all you can eat smorgasbord that is extremely good value at only $31.80 per person for everything and it’s, quite frankly; a place that everyone should know about.

To say it had a good selection of food was an understatement. This was by far the most impressive buffet that I have ever been to or heard of. There was truly something for everyone from roast meats & vegetables to cold meat & salads to fresh seafood, Chinese food and a whole extra table full of desserts. And those were just the things that I tried.

A massive platter of fresh, cooked orange prawns sitting on a bed of lettuce leaves with a plate of sushi in the background.

And yes, buffets can have a lot to offer, but the remarkable thing about Danny’s was that the quality of the food was exceptional. The seafood was fresh, as were the salads and fruits and I don’t recall tasting anything that I disliked the entire evening. The Chinese was just as good as any traditional good Chinese restaurant, even better than most. It was seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection, being tender and saucy just as an authentic Chinese meal should be.

The Beef & Black Bean was deliciously rich and the meat melted in the mouth and the Chicken & Vegetables were probably my favourite dish of the night; the vegetables just soaked up all the flavours so well.

All the salads were homemade and the variety was remarkable; one whole section of the buffet was a splash of rainbow fruits and vegetables that tasted as good as they looked. As for the seafood; well there was plenty to choose from including cooked cold prawns, fresh natural oysters, cooked muscles, octopus and a selection of fresh fillets available to be grilled and cooked to your liking – and that’s all included in the price!

A large salad bowl with 16 large glass salad bowls full of many different and colourful fresh salads, the salad at the front being a creamy white potato salad.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, it’s the service that really made the night great. There were waiters and waitresses walking around the giant dining room collecting plates as fast as they were pushed away. They did it so professionally and discreetly that most of the time I didn’t even realise they had been until they were gone.

And to top it all off? The cherry on the cake? It would have had to of been that there was a chef, in the buffet area, that cooked steaks, fresh fish and prawn skewers exactly to your liking. Walk up, say “could I please grab a medium-rare steak” and he’d say “no problem, come back in about four minutes” which gives you the perfect amount of time to grab whatever salads, vegetables or anything else that you would like to go with it.

Danny’s Family Buffet is, in my opinion, a must-visit place in Tweeds Head, NSW. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and would gladly go back time and time again. If you would like more information, please see their Menu & Trading Hours.
